Stress often shows up quietly — in shallow breathing, tight shoulders, and a racing mind.
The quickest way to shift it isn’t to think your way out.
It’s to breathe.
Your breath directly influences your nervous system. When you slow it down, your body follows.
Here are five simple techniques to return to calm:
1. Box Breathing
Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4.
This creates rhythm and stability.
2. Extended Exhale
Inhale for 4, exhale for 6–8.
Longer exhales signal safety to the body.
3. 4-7-8 Breathing
Inhale 4, hold 7, exhale 8.
Deeply calming, ideal before sleep.
4. Nasal Breathing
Slow, steady breaths through the nose.
Encourages control and reduces tension.
5. Sigh Breath
Inhale deeply, then exhale with a sigh.
Releases immediate built-up stress.
You don’t need to do all of them.
Just choose one, and begin.
